Hi, Worldview Live is simply great.

I use it on my iPad, but would really love to see a universal version of the app. Is this planned?

Thanks for the great work!

    Hello,

sorry for the late response, somehow I missed this post.

I am planning of doing a version for the iPad, but most probably not being universal since the UI and lots of inner workings will be completely different and it will be based on iOS4, which isn't available yet, not even for developers. Before that there will be 2 major updated for the iPhone version.

    Best,
    Andreas

Hi all, the iPad is surely on the radar. But it is simply not easy to do. I pointed out some reasons over here: http://support.worldviewmobileapp.com/discussions/support/124-ipad-...

    Hi Andreas,

You have a great app on the iphone, an IPAD version will be perfect

For the IPAD version, the interface is important. If your keep the original resolution of the webcams it will be ok.

    Thanks for your great work

I am currently working on the iPad user interface, and it turns out it has to be very very different from the iPhone user interface. Also, on the iPhone the app is being used a lot while not being at home.

Some people use it for checking weather conditions for planing their flights, others checking streets for traffic jams, checking places they have been to, checking their own webcams at home or just to browse the world.

To make the UI right, I would like to learn about how you are using WorldView today at home, while not being on the go. Which are the scenarios you open the application?

It would be great to stick to your intension and not saying "The app should work like this, look like that, ...". I am looking for your desires, your interests.

Looking forward to all your feedback!

    Hi Andreas,

Thanks for all your work. I paid for the "+" version even though the free one would have worked fine just because I believe in supporting good app developers.

For the iPad app, I dont think it needs to be different in any other way than making the interface use the screen real-estate without blowing up the iPhone version. Maybe give the option to pixel-double the webcam images themselves within the wider iPad native interface space.

And since there's so much screen space on the ipad and webcam images are so small and wouldn't benefit much, how about the option of viewing multiple cams on one page, maybe a multi-cam bookmark?

I'd also like it if I could make separate bookmarks for stills only or video only so that I can get to the view I want with one button instead of clicking on the bookmark and then the video icon.

    Thanks for listening.
    Ed

    Just trying to help.

I use worldview almost every day to check up with my favorite places in the world. It would be cool if the ipad version would combine the camera functions with some other information of these places, example
Local news, local town website, google maps/ streetview.

    Hello everybody,

I'd like give an update on the iPad version status. Work has indeed started, and I already tried simply upscaling the UI to use the iPads more screen space. Webcam images look great mostly, of course ones that only provide 320x240 pixel size images don't. The list views, searching etc. feels very bad though. I am making progress on that.

On the bad side, it won't be finished and available in May. This is due to some other contracting work I am doing, which requires more time and also time for testing the iPad version later on too. All I can say for now is I am targeting this summer. Of course, the sooner the better.

If anybody in here would like to participate in beta testing and getting hands on the app earlier, this will be announced when I am approaching a beta version.

@Maarten: The goal is to provide more information about the places the webcam is showing, so it will definitely have wikipedia, better weather information, Google maps. Local news, local town website and streetview isn't that easy or even not possible. The question here is, how to get the information only by having the geo location of the webcam. If there is a data provider with this information, it would be possible. Local town website is most likely not possible, other than opening a browser window with a search request to Google search or others. Streetview is not available to 3rd party applications, so the google maps app has to be opened to get that.

    Hi Jasper,

sure. I am actually working on it right at this very moment. Hope to have a first beta version by the end of next week.

My plans were higher than I do have time for. So it will be mostly a quick adoption to the iPad size, instead of also restructuring the UI and adding more features. Sadly.

    I added a first preview.

    Andreas
