INACTIVE cameras all over the place
Until recently there was no problem with this, but in the last few days I have had increasingly more cameras simply report as INACTIVE. In fact it applies to all my European, African and Australian views, as well as some in Canada (where I live). No matter how much I try to refresh the images, the continue to be locked as Inactive when approached via my bookmarks.
I have searched out those same cameras via Featured and Search and located them, and THOSE were not locked or inactive. I finally marked the new ones for my favourites but found I had to delete them from the bookmarks first. Anyway, they then worked and refreshed just fine, UNTIL THE NEXT DAY, when all the new ones were once again locked and marked INACTIVE. In fact, this happened to several new views that I had also just started to watch.
At this point, I've deleted all my international views from my bookmarks, and some of my Canadian ones (the ones marked inactive). The URLs I've added that are marked as Manual have not had this problem happen to them.
I looked at the other thread about 1.4.1 and 1.4.0 showing and you were right, the number when I looked via settings is 1.4.1.

Hello Bart,
there is a bug that isn't updating non manual webcams starting position 26 in the bookmarks. I submitted 1.4.2 to Apple last week with the following changes:
- BUGFIX: Bookmarks after position 25 in the list don't get updated and only show image, but no other information like name, etc. - BUGFIX: Stability fixes - NEW: Chinese language support (Simplified and Traditional)
Sorry for the trouble.
Andreas

Hi there
all Random Cameras, Live and Video, are marked as Inactive.
But if you chose one, the Camera works!
Thanks for fix soon....

Hello Spalti,
this is fixed as part of Version 1.4.3 which has already been sent to Apple on 30th November.
Sorry for the trouble
Andreas

I noticed a remarkable improvement with 1.4.2, although I'm getting a number of cameras which report as being up to date (like 6 seconds, or 2 minutes) but are obviously NOT up to date, since they are showing a dark night scene when their time zone is in full daylight. I don't think it is the App though, but rather that the originating source is not sending out a current picture, making the App think it is up to date but it is being fed old information.

Unable to open any cameras at all. Worked for 2 minutes. How do I get it to work, or get a refund for the purchase???
Support Staff 7 Posted by Andreas Linde on 20 Dec, 2009 12:23 PM
The http://webcams.travel server, which delivers most of the information used is down. That is why no webcam image is getting updated. I forwarded the issue to the company running webcams.travel website and server and hopefully they'll be able to fix it soon. So this is only be a temporary issue.
For a refund, you need to go the iTunes App Store and log in with your account data. Click on "Account". In your account overview, select "Purchase History".
Apparently Apple does not refund customers that are not satisfied with an app. But they refund you if you purchased an app by accident.
UPDATE: A switch (network hardware) stopped working, there is already someone heading to the server to fix it.

The webcams.travel server is back up and WorldView is running fine again.

I can understand camera servers being down; it happens all the time. It is certainly no fault of this app, which I've enjoyed for many months now. I don't know about other people, but I try to have a direct URL from the most important (to me) cameras so as to avoid the 'middle man'.
Unfortunately, there does seem to be an upper limit on the direct URLs one can successfully add, but since I'm now juggling some 27 of them, and about as many from the webserver, it's not a huge problem. As it is it takes so long to view them all I don't know that I really want any more anyway. :)

The concept of "Live" access is, to provide this direct webcam access for more and more webcams available on webcams.travel, without you needing to worry about URLs etc. But webcams.travel is still in there, since I use it to detect if the webcam is generally offline and thus won't use that direct link which would only take time and then show a network problem.
There is no limit added to the app for direct URLs, what is the effect you are getting if you add more?

When I get to the place where I am to add the name, app goes black screen and crashes. If I put the name in before the URL then THAT action causes the crash. Removing several URL links and THEN doing what just crashed the app will go through just fine, until several have been added.

I'll try to check that.

Hi,
I found the issue with the Paderborn cam. The webcam tells the image is date 1970 (!!) and therefor is older than the latest image from webcams.travel. I'll add a validity check for this data to make sure such obviously wrong information is ignored and then will send an update to Apple.
Sorry for the inconvenience
Andreas

Additional note for this webcam, it officially says to update every 2 seconds, but hardly ever does so. It mostly takes lots of seconds to load the webcam. I'll increase the timeframe to 30 seconds to make it work better and not always load forever.

Hi Andreas
i don't know what webcam you're looking at,but mine changes every 2 seconds!!! - at least it did so the last couple of years. I WILL NOt go in any technical discussion with you. If it's not gonna work this App. I will be sad, because it was my window to my home place. Never mind the moneyi spentfor this App to download. But then you have to change it to WorldView only and forget the adding of the word Live. Still - Happy Weekend - Michael

Hello Michael,
an update fixing this problem that the current image is not shown has been send to Apple. The Live edition will then be able to show this webcam image again directly instead of only showing an old one. Sorry for the trouble, didn't mean to go into technical discussion, just telling why this problem occurred.
Schönes Wochenende
Andreas
